The textile industry in the whole region has a long-standing tradition, which reaches back much further than the 16th century, when the clothmakers' guilds in both towns received articles from their superiors.
The loom or spinning wheel was part of most households; while in the summer months the farmers were busy with seasonal work in the fields, during the winter, it was the textile industry they busied themselves with. Finished products were sold at annual markets or bought from small village weavers by traders.
The emergence of textile factories in Frýdek and Místek in the 19th century helped shape the development of both cities just as it had done in the century following their nationalisation and merger of the newly formed Slezské Bavlnářské Závody.
